On 13th June 2026, the Trinity College Kandy - Colombo OBA Branch successfully conducted its second consecutive Free Medical Camp, further raising the bar from last year's initiative.
This year, we significantly enhanced our service offering by introducing consultations and services from an Endocrinologist and a Cardiologist, along with Physiotherapy, Sleep & Wellness Counselling, in addition to the services offered last year, including Eye Screening, Hemoglobin and Blood Pressure Screening, Urology Consultations, Diabetic Care Services, Lung Function Tests, and Height and Weight Assessments.
Despite the rainy weather, the overall turnout remained comparable to last year's numbers. However, the composition of attendees changed significantly. Last year, approximately 80% of attendees were branch members and their families, with 20% from the general public. This year, the trend reversed, with approximately 70% of attendees coming from the general public and 30% from our membership base. We had a considerable number of people from areas such as Bambalapitiya and Wellawatte to attend the camp.
One of the most encouraging pieces of feedback we received was that the camp served as a "one-stop shop" that addressed multiple healthcare needs under one roof.
Patients deeply appreciated the care, attention, and professionalism extended by our healthcare professionals and support teams, and many left with a high level of satisfaction.
Our main learning point this year is that greater awareness and publicity could have helped us reach and serve many more people. This presents an opportunity for us to rethink our approach.
Going forward, perhaps we should consider taking this initiative into an underprivileged community and position it as a flagship CSR project of the branch. By targeting areas with limited access to healthcare services, we can create a greater social impact and potentially serve 400–500 deserving patients in next year's camp.
